Junior Karie Judge of Tewksbury earned All-Conference honors, junior Stephanie Walker of Tewksbury placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles, and Kyla Higgins of Tewksbury took eighth in the shot put as the UMass Lowell women?s indoor track and field team won its second straight Northeast-10 Conference championship Saturday night at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.
Junior Antoinette Toussaint of Somerville, scored 32 points and was named the Athlete of the Meet.
The title was UMass Lowell?s fourth in five years and eighth in the last 11. The indoor championship ? UMass Lowell?s last as an NCAA Division II school ? was particularly meaningful for the River Hawks following Thursday announcement it will join Division I and America East effective July 1.
Head coach Gary Gardner was named the NE-10 Women?s Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year.
UMass Lowell compiled 216 points while American International College placed second with 119 points and Stonehill College (101) third. New Haven (96) and Southern Connecticut (67) rounded out the top five.
UMass Lowell crowned five champions and 13 All-Northeast-10 Conference honorees as the top two finishers in each event earned All-Conference status.
Toussaint captured the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 5.75 inches, currently 21st on the Division II list, and scored in four events. She also finished runner-up in the long jump, 18 feet 5 inches, also an NCAA provisional mark, and the 500 meters, 1:14.77.
Toussaint led three River Hawks in the top four places in the high jump as freshman Alanna Kelley of Bellingham, took third, clearing 5 feet 1.75 inches, while junior Marissa Avery of Colrain was fourth with the same height but on more attempts.
Junior Elisabeth Monty of Charlton captured two events to help the title cause. She won the 400-meter dash and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship with a time of 56.56 seconds, currently 22nd on the latest NCAA Division II list. She edged senior teammate Nicole Giaquinto of Winthrop who was the runner-up in 56.57 seconds.
Monty moved on to the 60 meter hurdles, which she won in 8.35 seconds and led two teammates in the top four places. Toussaint placed third in 8.96 seconds and junior Stephanie Walker of Tewksbury fourth in 9.18.
Giaquinto also placed runner-up in the 200-meter dash in 24.85 while Monty took fifth in 25.45; sophomore Taelour Murphy of Salisbury was sixth in 25.46; and junior Diamond Jones of Lowell placed eighth in 25.56.
Jones highlighted the night with a runner-up/All-Conference finish in the triple jump with 37 feet 11.25 inches.
Senior Shannon Cunningham of Foxboro captured the 500 meters and set a NE-10 record with a time of 1:14.55, just ahead of Toussaint. Sophomore Alexis Kitsakos of Merrimac placed fifth in 1:18.26 and sophomore Shaniece Cola of Lowell sixth in 1:18.96.
Junior Candace Greene of Annapolis, Md., won the shot put for the third straight year as she threw 47 feet 9 inches to inch up to seventh on the NCAA list. Greene?s effort bested the remainder of the field by more than seven feet.
Senior Robyn Ciriello of Salem, N.H., placed sixth with a throw of 36 feet 5 inches while sophomore Kyla Higgins of Tewksbury took eighth with 35 feet 6 inches. Higgins also placed fifth in the weight throw with 43 feet 6.5 inches.
Junior Karie Judge of Tewksbury earned All-Conference honors in both the 800 meters and the mile. She took second in the 800 in 2:20.66; and the mile in 5:10.49, edging senior teammate Kelly Walton of Nahant, who placed third in 5:11.56. Sophomore Cassie Harding of Amesbury, took seventh in the mile in 5:22.36.
Walton captured All-Conference honors in the 1,000 meters, placing second in 3:01.32, just ahead of freshman Kelsey O?Driscoll of New Providence, N.J., who was third in 3:02.
UMass Lowell scored well in the 60-meter dash, occupying places four through seven. Freshman Arashana Yanes of Nashua, N.H., placed fourth in 7.79 while Jones took fifth in 7.89; Murphy sixth in 7.85; and Giaquinto seventh in 7.86.
The River Hawk 4X800 meter relay team led the relay efforts, placing third in 9:52.35, while the 4X400 meter relay team took fifth in 4:04.54; and the distance medley relay team fifth in 13:29.45.
Other scorers included senior Gina Butler of Dracut, who took fourth in the 3,000 meters 10:50.67.
UMass Lowell enters the New England Championship next Friday and Saturday at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center.
